I was instantly hooked and have never looked back!

Posted by Jital Rao on

Two and a half years ago, I was looking for something different to do.  I was already in a wheelchair after a brain injury.  I then had a stroke at 32, losing the use of the right side of my body.

Fortunately, shock gave way to my natural determination.  I was on a mission!

I went to the craft show at the NEC.  When I saw the Craft Buddy stall, I was instantly hooked.  All that sparkle.  I just couldn’t resist.

I bought my first canvas, going large thinking it would take me a while.

Trouble is, I couldn’t put it down.  I finished it in under a week.

Once i’d completed it, I went on the website and purchased ‘Afternoon Tea Dragon’, followed by a custom-made Betty Boo.

Well and truly hooked i’m afraid. I even had to buy another Tea Dragon as my niece and nephew both fell in love with it.

The following November, I went back to the NEC specifically for the Craft Buddy stall.

I was having a good look and was suddenly surrounded by people. It’s embarrassing to admit, but due to the brain injury I completely freaked out, though I wasn’t aware of it at the time.

I was told later that Gary came to my rescue. Moving people away from me and helping me calm down. Mom told me afterwards that he was so lovely.

Helping me himself with my purchases and making sure that I didn’t get surrounded and not rushing me.

I spent a fortune that day and I’ve never looked back.

For me personally, my Crystal Art has been so good for my rehab. It makes me concentrate and sort of bring my brain into focus. A strange term to use but true.

At the beginning of last year, I saw the post on facebook asking for applications to join the design team. In all honesty, even though I love it, I wasn’t sure as I still see myself as broken.

Mum reminded me about the NEC. I wasn’t judged or treated like some sort of nutter. You would be surprised how often that happens, and it knocks your confidence.

I applied and was accepted. I couldn’t believe somebody actually wanted me and accepted me for what I am.

It has helped me physically and mentally to be part of the team. I still can’t resist buying everything they produce. I love it.

I set myself goals like completing every Christmas card they make and so far, I have managed. I intend to keep going.

Before I became disabled, I was a florist by trade. I had seen pictures of the Forever Flowerz on their Facebook page.

When Craft Buddy had a sale at the start of lockdown, I decided to see what it was all about. I was intrigued because I always worked with fresh flowers. It was what I was used to and what I knew. In all honesty, I had never come across a silk flower that I liked!

Boy did that change rapidly. I had never come across flowers like it. The range, the colours and the quality are second to none and believe me, I’ve seen plenty. Without exception, all bad may I add!

I made a wreath and posted the picture. I was shocked when Dino asked to borrow it. I couldn’t believe it.  Within weeks I had been invited to join the Forever Flowerz design team too.

Again, I couldn’t believe I was wanted. It has given me back my love of flowers. I had seriously thought about giving it up completely. My ex-boss once told me that I was a liability in a wheelchair and that he’d replaced me. Even though I actually worked at home.

As far as I am concerned, it’s Craft Buddy all the way. I owe them a debt of gratitude for the way they have helped me. Without them I would still be lost. I hope you all enjoyed my story and also share my love for Crystal Art and Forever Flowerz. I have created a Facebook group (Bek's Flower Corner), where I often do live demonstrations of requests on how to display and arrange your Forever Flowerz - feel free to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/187854809590283
